NABET members from WSYR TV in Syracuse said
goodbye to a long-time colleague.  Retired news
cameraman Rock J. Carbone died on September 26th
with family at his side.  He was 92.

Rock Carbone worked for 15 years at Channel 9,
spanning the transition from film to video.  He retired in
1982.  He came to the station (then known as WNYS,
and later WIXT) after working as a commercial
photographer and as a professional singer.  He served in
the US Army in WW II.

Rocky was born in Calabria, Italy, and raised in
Syracuse.  He’s remembered fondly at Channel 9 as a
generous co-worker with a great sense of humor, a
terrific sounding board who mentored reporters and
photographers alike.  He was a popular face at NABET
clambakes long after his retirement.

Carbone is survived by a son and two daughters, six
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  He’s also
survived by his brother, film and TV actor Antony
